Big in 2025: The 50 most anticipated games of the year
2025 is set to be the biggest year for the video game industry in a generation. Rockstar Games is preparing to release GTA 6 this fall, with the long-awaited return to Vice City guaranteed to have a seismic impact. Nintendo is set to reveal the Switch 2 any day now, with the new console expected to launch alongside Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. PlayStation is set to get Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei out the door in the next 12 months, while Xbox has Avowed, Doom: The Dark Ages, Fable, and South of Midnight waiting in the wings. Like I said, 2025 is going to be big.

What's incredible is that there's still so much more to come. With behemoth sequels like Borderlands 4 and AAA experiments like Elden Ring Nightreign, ambitious remasters like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and exciting new IPs like Atomfall, there's truly something for everyone in the lineup of new games for 2025. In fact, there's so much on the way that it can be difficult to know where to focus your attention.

That's why we have put together this list of the 50 most anticipated video games of 2025 to help. Welcome to Big in 2025, your guide to the year in video games.

GTA 6 Wishlist
(Rockstar Games)
All going to plan, GTA 6 will finally be with us this year. Set for a fall 2025 launch, the next chapter of the enduring Grand Theft Auto series has been several years in the offing, with a series of high-profile leaks, batshit internet rumours, and one single GTA 6 trailer punctuating the journey.

It's been a long road, to paraphrase that trailer's Tom Petty-driven soundtrack, which has given us plenty of time to ponder what we want to see from Rockstar's next conversation-setting crime simulator. From its story to its characters, its world and whatever's in store for the next evolution of GTA Online, here's our GTA 6 wishlist.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Preview
Games have a pretty healthy obsession with medieval fantasies, but few are able to capitalize on it like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Giving you the fantasy of experiencing medieval life for real was the unique proposal from the game's 2018 predecessor, and this sequel only seeks to go further.

In the seven years since its debut, Warhorse Studios' vision has only grown more ambitious. It's there from the get-go with its technically polished opening sequence in the midst of a castle siege, and then when we're reacquainted with Henry of Skalitz, riding as part of Sir Hans Capon's entourage to deliver an urgent message. Who needs magic when you have the rich history and natural beauty of 15th century Bohemia?

Atomfall interview
What would you do if you awoke amidst a uniquely British apocalypse, without memory and any true sense of purpose? Perhaps you would wander the wildlands, settling into life as an outcast of this green and unpleasant land. Or maybe you'd follow the command of the bleeding man, blood dripping from their hazmat suit as they urge you out of your slumber and into a quarantine zone in search of The Interchange – a mysterious facility linked to the Windscale fire, one of the first nuclear accidents in recorded human history. Whatever you choose to do, Atomfall is willing to try and support it.

You can learn more about Rebellion's efforts to swerve the 'Fallout: United Kingdom' comparisons and deliver something far more creatively ambitious – "We like to think of it as X-Files in the Cold War Lake District" – in our exclusive interview, diving deep into one of the most intriguing video games for 2025.

FBC: Firebreak first look
Remedy Entertainment has become synonymous with creative storytelling in the video game industry. That reputation has been established over a three decade commitment to delivering singular single-player experiences, peerless in their ability to break boundaries.

FBC: Firebreak could, however, be seen as a break from this tradition; a three-player co-operative first-person shooter, and the studio's first multiplayer game. "A lot of this is uncharted territory for us," acknowledges Mike Kayatta, game director. "We know we have a lot to learn to deliver on the potential we see, but there's a lot of passion and drive behind our push into this space."

New Assassin's Creed Shadows release date
(Ubisoft)
Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed again. The open-world game is now set to launch on March 20, 2025. Ubisoft says the delay will provide additional development time as part of the company's "renewed focus on gameplay quality and engaging Day-1 experiences." "We are all behind our teams' efforts to create the most ambitious Assassin's Creed opus of the franchise," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained.

Elden Ring Nightreign network test details
(FromSoftware)
Elden Ring Nightreign's first network test is going live next month, but you'll only be able to play for three hours a day on most of its available days, unfortunately for the sickos who want to grind and maybe get bullied by infamously hard Dark Souls bosses well into the night. Applications for Elden Ring Nightreign's network test open today at 6am PST, 9am EST, 3pm CET, and 2pm GMT on FromSoftware's official website, though it'll only be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S console players.
