Fleeing the U.S. and splitting up her family amid the Trump-era raids Jerardyn fled the violence in Venezuela with her children, crossing the treacherous Darién Gap and eventually finding refuge in a Los Angeles church basement. For eight months, they hid from immigration raids, clinging to hope for asylum. But fear and uncertainty grew unbearable. Last month, she made the hardest decision of her life: to leave the United States for Mexico with her two youngest kids, leaving her two eldest behind to continue their asylum cases.
