L.A. federal prosecutors resign over plea deal for convicted sheriff's deputy, sources say Multiple federal prosecutors have submitted resignations after U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli offered a plea agreement to an L.A. County sheriff's deputy who had already been convicted of using excessive force, sources told The Times. The deal, which still needs approval from a judge, could allow the deputy to receive a year of probation instead of up to 10 years in prison. Read more
