We are proud to share that last week the L.A. Times was awarded its 52nd Pulitzer Prize. Congratulations to former Times film critic Justin Chang for earning this honor in the category of criticism for work published in The Times in 2023. The judging panel celebrated his "richly evocative and genre-spanning film criticism that reflects on the contemporary moviegoing experience."

Additionally, the L.A. Times staff was recognized as a finalist for breaking news reporting for coverage of last year's tragic mass shooting in Monterey Park. The judges praised our stories for their "clear knowledge of and commitment to the local Asian communities."

We're also happy to share that Times staff writer Keri Blakinger was named a finalist for Feature Writing for a piece she reported before joining The Times. "When Wizards and Orcs Came to Death Row" is a piece about how the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons has served as a lifeline for Texas inmates on death row.
