A vital 17-miles stretch of Interstate 5 in Southern California has been cut temporarily after military officials confirmed that live-fire artillery rounds will be shot over the freeway during a military event at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

How to get around the Interstate 5 closure today through Camp Pendleton in Southern California

The U.S. military is planning to fire live artillery rounds over Interstate 5 in Southern California during an event on Saturday. The freeway will be shut down temporarily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. along a 17-mile stretch of coastal northern San Diego County, just south of the border with Orange County.
