I straddled the roles of reporter and heartbroken Altadenan, remembering growing up in my hometown of Altadena as my family evacuated. The inferno took the lives of at least 19 people and burned 9,000 homes, businesses and other structures to the ground — a place I didn't realize how much I loved until it was gone.
