| |  | | | New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker broke Strom Thurmond's civil rights-era record for longest speech on the Senate floor, speaking for over 24 hours in a feat of endurance to show his party's objections to President Trump's sweeping actions.
"These are not normal times in our nation," Booker said as he began speaking Monday night. "And they should not be treated as such in the United States Senate. The threats to the American people and American democracy are grave and urgent, and we all must do more to stand against them.
